About the Organisation

About the Criminal Law Committee

The Criminal Law Committee of the Presidency School of Law, Presidency University, is a student-led academic body dedicated to fostering critical engagement with criminal law, criminology, and the criminal justice system. The Committee focuses on combining doctrinal learning with practical exposure through innovative academic and experiential initiatives.

The Committee has previously successfully organised an Intra-School Crime Scene Investigation Competition, providing hands-on training in investigative procedures and evidence analysis. It has also conducted a National Essay Competition addressing contemporary issues in criminal law and justice.

Additionally, the Criminal Law Committee has organised conferences, workshops, and expert lectures on the New Criminal Laws, featuring prominent legal practitioners, academicians, and experts, facilitating informed discussion on legislative reforms and their real-world implications.

About the Opportunity

The National Crime Scene Investigation Competition 2026 is a first-of-its-kind experiential learning platform designed to simulate real-life criminal investigation processes. The competition immerses participants in practical investigative challenges including crime scene assessment, evidence handling, witness examination, and preparation of investigation briefs.

Theme

Scientific and Procedural Investigation in the Criminal Justice System

The competition emphasises the integration of criminal law, forensic science, and procedural compliance, with special focus on evidence collection, chain of custody, witness examination, and application of the new criminal codes.

Eligibility

Open to undergraduate and postgraduate law students

Participants must be enrolled in a recognised university or law school in India

Team size: 3 members per team

Prior experience in criminal law or moot courts is not mandatory

Registration Fee

₹1,500 per team

Prizes

Winner: ₹25,000

First Runner-Up: ₹15,000

Best Investigation Report: ₹10,000
