ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Jus Corpus is proud to present the 4th Virtual Conference on ‘Towards Gender Justice: Reassessing Laws, Societal Barriers, and the Path Forward’, to be held on 30 August 2025. This edition continues the legacy of fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration that the conference has built over its previous three editions, where key issues affecting women’s rights in developing and emerging societies were at the forefront of discussions. This conference has established itself as a premier platform for legal professionals, scholars, policymakers, and activists to explore the complex intersections of women’s rights, social equity, and legal reform. With a focus on addressing both the systemic challenges and the opportunities for legal and social transformation, this year’s conference will emphasise actionable strategies for promoting gender equality.

OBJECTIVES OF THE CONFERENCE

Critical Evaluation of Existing Legal Frameworks: To conduct a comprehensive analysis of current national and international legal frameworks aimed at achieving gender justice. This includes examining the efficacy, gaps, and inconsistencies in laws related to various forms of gender-based discrimination and violence, and identifying areas where legal reforms are necessary.

Identification and Analysis of Societal Barriers: To identify and thoroughly analyse the complex web of societal, cultural, and economic barriers that impede the progress of gender justice. This involves exploring issues such as patriarchal norms, gender stereotypes, discriminatory practices in education and employment, and the unequal distribution of resources and opportunities.

Exploration of Intersectionality: To foster a deeper understanding of the concept of intersectionality and its impact on gender justice. This includes examining how gender inequality intersects with other forms of discrimination based on factors such as race, ethnicity, class, caste, sexual orientation, and disability, and how these intersecting inequalities create unique challenges for marginalised groups.

Promotion of Inclusive and Participatory Approaches: To advocate for the development and implementation of gender justice initiatives that are inclusive, participatory, and centred on the voices and experiences of women and marginalised communities. This involves exploring strategies for empowering women, promoting their leadership and participation in decision-making processes, and ensuring that their perspectives are reflected in policy and legal reforms.

CONFERENCE LEGACY

Since its inception, the Jus Corpus has carved a distinct and respected niche in the global discourse on women’s rights and gender justice. Over the years, it has evolved into a dynamic platform that brings together legal scholars, policymakers, activists, and academics to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration. The 1st edition of the conference, themed “Women’s Rights in Developing Countries,” laid a strong foundation by exploring the unique legal and social challenges faced by women in low- and middle-income regions. It served as a critical forum for the exchange of grassroots experiences and scholarly perspectives.

Building on this groundwork, the 2nd edition titled Women’s Rights in Emerging Societies,” delved deeper into the intersectional issues affecting women, including economic disparities, access to justice, and the pervasive threat of gender-based violence. The edition highlighted the evolving roles of women in transitional societies and the systemic barriers they continue to face.

The 3rd edition themed “Women’s Rights, Social Equity, and Legal Transformation,” emphasized the need for structural legal reforms and a more inclusive policy framework. It focused on strategies to promote social equity and legal empowerment as tools for lasting change. Across all its editions, the conference has succeeded in generating actionable insights and fostering cross-border collaborations. It has become an annual convergence point for global thought leaders working collectively toward a shared vision of a more just, inclusive, and equitable world for women.

This year’s theme, “Towards Gender Justice: Reassessing Laws, Societal Barriers, and the Path Forward,” seeks to build upon that legacy, continuing the discourse while integrating a more focused lens on gender justice and societal barriers. By drawing on the lessons from past conferences and the collective experiences of participants, the 4th edition aims to serve as a catalyst for tangible change in the legal and social landscapes of emerging societies.
